for my assignment the area that I am focusing on is the total amount of plastic that we use weekly. I will be showing this by collecting all the plastic in our school at the end of each day for a week, I will then stuff the plastic into a sea turtle model (made out of bendable wire) the reason that I have chosen to mold the plastic into a sea turtle is because sea turtles consume the most plastic. the turtle will be placed in the corridor where there is a lot of traffic so that majority of the students can see the project, next to the turtle will be some questions regarding whether or not this convinced people to use more recyclable plastics.
What a great idea! I love that you have chosen something highly visual that students will relate to. I think you have a good chance of your promotion being very effective because of the visual nature of your sea turtle. Also being filled with plastic should make students think about how much plastic is being used per person. It will be interesting to see if there is a lot of plastic left over that doesn't make it in to the recycling bins.
Also love you are doing some evaluation of your awareness program with a survey to see if it might change students/ staff recycling behavior.
For the Year 9/10 Sustainability Assignment I will be conducting a Clothes Swap where I will advertise for people to donate clothes a week or a couple days before, and then I will right their name on a lost and on the day at recess the people who donated clothes will get first pick at the clothes they got according to how many they donated. At the end of the swap I will donate the clothes to a charity or homeless shelter instead of throwing them out. I will also be making a brochure/poster with information on how many clothes we throw out per week. The area that interest me is how as a community we can help make a difference in someone’s life as well as trying to improve the sustainability. To do this for my assignment I need to go the green shed and gather some of the clothes from the cages outside (There free) and then take them home and wash them. I would then on the day of the swap bring them in and display them in a room such as a classroom. People would then come in at recess and lunch and come swap their clothes from the ones that are there which would bring in more clothes that would people like. By making the information posters/brochures I am expanding the mental sustainability of people by teaching them more information about what the sustainability in the world is like and that they should try to limit what they throw out and really think about when they buy something if they are going to wear it. I can coordinate the day when I do my clothes swap, so we can have some sort of sustainable day and we can all do our projects on that day. The clothes swap could be run once a term or even a semester so if people enjoyed doing this they can see what new clothes and accessories are in for swap where they can bring things to swap again. We could also expand to having it twice a term or twice a semester depending on how successful the Clothe Swap ran and if people enjoyed it. In conclusion I Will be running a clothes Swap and a advertainment campaign as we throwaway too many clothes which goes to the Dump and ruins the environment.
For my assessment piece for Sustanability, the area that I am focusing on is designing and making the hanging plant garden with materials. The hanging plantation garden will include materials such as a wood plate, jars or plastic bottles, soils and either vergetable seeds, fruit seeds or other plantation seeds. The area that interests me the most in doing this creative project is making something basics materials into a creative sustainable piece. For example making something into a hanging plantation garden is exciting and fun, because getting handy and doing something new and being creative with the materials. This project will be displayed somewhere that the students, teachers and guests can see how basic materials can be created into a sustaibale piece of work, as well as somewhere the hanging plantation garden can be hanged on.
For my assignment I am focusing on recycling and using plants that are edible. Most wooden pallets go to waste and just looking at them you can do so much with them. My aim is to reuse a wooden pallet to create a vertical garden. To make this more sustainable i will grow edible plants in them so they don't go to waste. The plants will go in plastic bottles that dont have a use anymore. I will be interested to see how the project will end up like. I will be also interested if how the plants will grow and if they will survive.
James this is an interesting idea and I think it has merit you need to think about your over impact in the sustainability at JPC and how you are going market and manage this project. This project needs to be developed so it is something that can be ongoing at JPC and improves the sustainability of JPC.
Adding to James Daly’s facts,
- It only takes around 2 months to recycle aluminium cans and get them back on a shelf at a supermarket
- Every week half a million trees get cut down just to produce newspapers!

The assignment I would like to implant into the JPC school community is a 2 hour session during periods four and five where at the area behind the oval students can have a go at planting native plants for this environment to help my area of sustainability environmental sustainability for the ecosystem to thrive more with native plants.
This area of sustainability interests me because in my opinion it is the most important part about sustainability, this is because this area of sustainability effects us all. in each of the different groups of sustainability, from personal, communal, national and global the effects of environmental sustainability effects us all, this is because humans are supposed to be care takers of the land and are suppose to be care for the creatures and the animals, but with the constant changing of habitats the environment is having a drastic change to the ecosystem with the animals the animals go into the school looking for food and then become reliant on the students for food (Hierro, J.L., Maron, J.L. and Callaway, R.M., 2005).
The more native plants for foo introduced back into the ecosystem the more the animals won't have to come into the school. Instead of "Killing two birds with one stone" it is more correct to be "Saving two birds with one stone"

For my assignment I am focusing on the way people package there food and the way we can reduce the plastic wraps and wastage we use on a daily, my theme is wipe out Wednesday and I’m hoping then can be made a day every year at JPC. I’m hoping to impact the kids of JPC to help them understand th e impact of a simple plastic wrapper can do.
My idea is going to be a tin can plant pot
The reason I chose this idea is because it is good for the environment because tin cans are not biodegradable and are bad if they are thrown ou. And it is a good idea because we are using what the school has plenty of and recycling it to make something useful out of it. You can display these on things such as windows tables desks
Week 3 (what are you interested in focusing on for your sustainability inquiry project?)
Fast fashion, I’m interested in seeing how much clothing the average household goes through per year and how these pieces of clothing can be reused instead of being disposed of. I believe everything has a second life. Using old clothing to repurpose and make into something functional is extremely rewarding. I believe I can make an effective campaign to raise awareness of how much clothing we waste and how to reduce this waste! Did you know? Clothing can not only be repurposed it can be recycled. if the piece of clothing is made of wool it can be manufactured into house insulation, how cool is that?
For my campaign I will be making 100 scrunchies out of 90% recycled materials. To prove we can recycle any material I will also be making a mix match bag out of excess scraps! This will also go with an electronic animation presentation. They will be displayed in recycled tool boxes. This project effects the JPC community as we ( the students of JPC) are part of generation Z that is currently speeding through fashion and expression as well as our physical changes such as growing out of clothes and uniforms. I want to find an effective way to up cycle our old clothing to better our future. This will also help the futures of children working under the harsh conditions of child labour especially in Bangladesh.
Sustain blog 2: what area are you interested in focusing on for your sustainability inquiry project?
I am interested in up-cycling old, used clothes and making them into something brand new and practical. So much clothes go to waste each year because people grow out of them and just throw them out, I’m focusing on changing that and collecting used clothes that people don’t want or wouldn’t use and change them into a fashion accessory that people use everyday. I am going to be turning old clothes into scrunchies, scrunchies are coming back into fashion now and they would have a lot more of use than old clothes wasting away. The worldwide fashion industry in valued at $3 trillion which could be spent on something more effective and environmentally friendly instead of producing new clothes every single day which just puts more into clothes wastage which effects the sustainability of the earth because it adds up to wastage. If the amount of clothes wastage is even halved it would have a massive ongoing effect on sustainability.
Anna this is a great idea and I think it has merit you need to think about your over impact in the sustainability at JPC and how you are going market and manage this project.
The area of sustainability I’m focused on is no waste lunch, which is based on not bring rubbish or throwing away excess food. I’m interested in this topic because the amount of rubbish on the oval and terrace is disgusting and hopefully having a no waste lunch will prevent the amount of rubbish and waste on ovals and in the school yard.
The concept of a no waste lunch is a simple and popular idea but is effective when the area or normally a school participates properly. The idea of no waste lunch or nude food has been around for a long time and has been done by many schools at different points in time. The idea of a no waste lunch is based on reducing waste and using reusable containers or bags such as zip lock bags and Tupperware containers.
No waste lunch is a important in reduce the amount of waste in the workplace or school yards. It is important to enforce these types of programs as an attempt to stop waste and to reduce the amount of waste being placed into landfill.
Hanging garden I am interested because I think it would interesting to do and see how it works out
My area of interest for my assignment is the effect of soft plastics in the environment. To explore the impact on the environment and how everyone can do their part in saving the environment. Plastic int he environment effects absolutely everything, from wildlife, to the wildlife habitat and even humans. Firstly I will need to explore what plastics are the most dangerous for the environment and which plastics should be my main focus. I 100% love animals and knowing that over 100million marine animals die each year due to plastic and pollution, shocks me greatly and makes me want to do something about it. There are already many campaigns in place which I could take inspiration from. Each day students have packed lunches which more than likely have some type of plastic wrapping or packaging. Students litter frequently and/or don't dispose of their plastics correctly. At the moment there is already a strategy in place of having correct bins everywhere around the school which encourage kids to dispose of their plastic correctly, but I believe there is definitely more that we can do.
I am interested in developing a sustainable method for electronically waste that can both be implemented in school effectively and is in a convieniant enough location to be able to access it so students will be able to recycle thejr old and broken electronical devices and wires, and make newer, better products from that
For my assignment the area that I am focusing on is the total amount of plastic that we used weekly, by creating a “ Nude Food” Campaign. I will be showing this by collecting some examples of food that comes in plastic, this will show people what food they shouldn’t be bringing to school. This will create a knowledge of what food is considered “ Nude Food”. I will also be able to create a poster with information and facts about the amount of waste within our school and the rest of Australia, what foods are considered “ Nude Food” and what food is not considered “ Nude Food”, ect.
I am interested in saving energy at the school, I am really curious to see how much power we are using and how much that is actually costing. In the school there are many lights on throughout the day, so I want to see if I can do something that will maybe make a difference to the amount we are using. I feel like all the lights in the school are constantly on even when no one will be using them. People are also leaving the macs on constantly even though they are only ever used in ilt and rarely used in classes, by leaving them on it is just adding that little bit more to the cost of the electricity bill. What I want to do to change this is I want to set up a campaign showing people how much money they are waiting by comparing it by something that has value to them like technology or sporting gear. If you show them how much it is costing by relating it to something that has value to them they might actually realize what they can be waiting by leaving the lights on or leaving a mac on.
Answer on question or comment on one statement for each week of ILT. Your expected to research and read about the topic before answering the questions!Read rubric on Moodle to see what your aiming for!
