1. The North pacific Gyre is home to the "great pacific Garbage patch". this area is approximately the size of Texas and is covered in nothing but marine debris extending 20 feet (6 meters) down into the water column and garbage (SEE Turtles, 2018).

1. In addition to the loss of habitat, the lack of trees also allows a greater amount of greenhouse gases to be released into the atmosphere. Presently, the tropical rainforests of South America are responsible for 20% of Earth’s oxygen and they are disappearing at a rate of 4 hectares a decade. If these rates are not stopped and reversed, the consequences will become even more severe.

With more than eight million tonnes going into the oceans every year, it is estimated there will be more plastic than fish by 2050 and 99 per cent of all the seabirds on the planet will have consumed some. It is thought the sea now contains some 51 trillion microplastic particles – 500 times more than stars in our galaxy. (Independent, 2017)

The average Australian uses 170 plastic bags every year. 150 million of these end up as litter, only 3% of them are currently being recycle and 200,000 bags are dumped in landfill every hour.
