Fair Harbor: From Bottles to board shorts
This company is taking empty plastic bottles that are found from a recycling facility. The bottles are then created into men’s boardshorts. This product is upcycling the amount of plastic that is thrown in the bin or even other products which is causing the environment harm. One cotton t-shirt requires the production of 713 gallons of water (Jake Danley, 2018). A lot of people had wanted to recycle their rubbish but when they put it in the bin they had absolutely no idea where it was going after that. The objective that was created for this project was to make a product that people love and something people can create out of recycled materials.
They invested the entire business of Ikea to sustainability as they source their wood from sustainable farms which they bought 50% of its wood from that farm. When they buy the cotton, they buy it from people who meet the better cotton standards and then buy 100% of the cotton. Doing this reduces the amount of water and energy that are usually used. The solar panels that are on the Ikea roof is a total of 700,000 and they wish to sell them to customers to help use less energy. By doing this they are reducing the amount of waste that is usually used and less energy as well as resources that cannot be re used. Ikea has made a goal of being 100% sustainable by 2020.
This company has ambitious sustainability goals like other companies. They focus on making environmentally friendly products for the public to be able to use. They have sustainable actions in their everyday life. This company does have a high sustainability mark because they try to eliminate the need for their employees to drive to work as well as trying to reduce the carbon foot print they have. They are trying to make a sustainable smart time in japan that is centred around sustainability. By doing this they are reducing the amount of energy that is used in the world as well as the amount of pollution they are trying to eliminate.
Just water is a water paper bottled, plant-base cap that is saving water wastage and also helping all over the world, it is created by Jaden and Will smith to help the eveironment be sustainable and being 100% spring water. This is a great product because these great two actors are taking the initive to make the world a better and sustaibale place by creating a product sustainable. Another sustainable product is the reusable grocery bags. This is a great sustainable product because it is reusabale and can indeed help people with their groceries, it also is very sustainable because you cant waste it and chuck it out, its reusable and is so good for shopping the people using it and especially the environment. Lastly, the final sustainable product is rechargable batteries. This is a great product because it helps socoiety and the environment to be more sustainable. This product helps society because you can recharge the battery and not waste and piut in the bin, saving a lot of materials, as well as wastage for the envionment, which is great.

Find 3 Companies that are producing sustainable items.
The three companies I have selected for my sustainable this week's ILT are;
Solar Bins Australia
IKEA: IKEA has put into place a strategy that helps the environment by using sustainable timber i their products that have wood and timber in them (IKEA, 2017). IKEA is also acting more sustainable with their food department by using food from more sustainable sources and not wasting as much food as before the last financial year by a whole 24.7% less food wasted. The sustainability is not only environmental by social as well, one a national scale 44% of Australian management staff are Female. Globally over 3.2TWh of renewable energy was produce in the 2016/17 financial year, it is also predicted that IKEA will have the same amount of renewable energy and used energy by 2020.
Solar Bins Australia: This company is helping local communities save a small amount of money by compacting the rubbish through solar energy instead of fossil fuels or wood powered plants. This helps economically by having the council not having to employ people to take the bins more often. It also has studies say that it is used 80% more effective than normal bins (Solar Bins Australia, 2018)
Quiksilver: Quiksilver has designed a products that takes a plastic bottle and turns it into a pair of board shorts. The order that that take one item into another is this;
1. Recycle Plastic Bottles
2. Get the bottle and turn it into bottle flakes
3. Retrieve the flakes and ground them in to small chips
4. Then they are turned into a roll of fiber.
5. The roll of fiber goes on to be turned into shorts.
The effects of this is that more jobs are created to turn the bottle to fiber and more jobs to actually make the pants. These have an effects that doesn't cost the world for clothes.

Sustain blog week 7: find three companies that have developed a new sustainable product and are making a significant difference.
350.org creates a movement to stop climate crisis’ worldwide, they use online campaigns, grassroots organisation and big public actions that get the public’s attention, the campaigns are led by thousands of volunteers in over 188 countries.
VERDEate.com is an online based company which uses socials media to spread the word and promote greener habits, it is effective because it is through social media which mostly everyone is on. People who participate get to create or accept challenged that are called ‘green challenges’ these green challenges try to reduce the amount of co2 that gets wasted by humans. The focus of this website is to fight climate change.
The sustainable food lab, this company employs new people to get a head start on pushing the world in a positive direction towards food security, they aim to have a healthy and sustainable food system which will be able to cater for the world population as it grows.

Ikea has made a lusy blom pillow which is filled with leftvoers from their quilt products. They want to make sure that everything gets used and is not wasted. Ikea wants to help the world be a better place as they know they are sometimes apart of the problem. The environment is very precious, and they know that if they continue being more sustainable they can be apart of the solution.
Target has been trying to improve the sustainability as they exceeded their goal to make their packaging design more sustaiable. Since then they announced five new sustainable packaging goals. They are to use fewer materials overall, incorporate more recycable or renewable content and to reduce as much waste as possible. They also have tried to be more sustainable by serving up more organics. They increased the number of organic products by 139%. They have also made reusable bags and to promote the bag they offer 5% discount for each reusable bag they use.
The enviroshop has smartly designed a power meter which displays a extendable LCD. This is useful for when a powerpoint is in an inconvenient place like where the power point is not in clear view. Watts, cost, volts, amps and CO2 emission is displayed where the LCD is.
The famous Swedish, Dutch based company that produces furniture, IKEA produces their products sustainable. They reuse most materials and still produce quality furniture.
IKEA aims to become more sustainable with the 2020 sustainability strategy which involve source 100% of its wood, paper, cardboard from more sustainable sources which are recycled, using cotton from "more sustainable" sources. They also say that 90% of products will be more sustainable with substantiated environmental improvements. This benefit both the environment and the consumer as nothing goes to complete waste and the consumer can still purchase quality furniture.
Unilever produces goods that most people use everyday. Unilever has over 400 brands and it aims to produce sustainable products for the public while also not damaging the environment too much.
Seven generation is a leading brand of green household and personal care products which was established in 1988. They want to be a leader into a sustainable future from their development to their production, purchase, use and disposal. Again this benefits both the people and the environment.

Ikea has invested in make their sustainability usage better though there entire business, things that everyone can notice such as where there supply comes from where the Swedish furniture-maker has sourced close to 50 per cent of its wood from sustainable foresters and 100 per cent of its cotton from farms that meet the Better Cotton standards, which mandate reduced user of water, energy and chemical fertilisers, which is great because so many things produced daily that hurt the envirment and by the businesses making these changes is great and improves our world dramatically.
Unilever has done more than make green investments, it’s made sustainability part of its corporate identity. The company’s Sustainable Living Plan sets targets for sourcing, supply lots of on everything from energy and water use to treatment of suppliers and communities where they operate. This is showing the people about how import it is to keep sustainability interacting with our world.
Panasonic is not well known but it consistently wins high marks from experts. Like many companies on this list, Panasonic has ambitious energy goals, both in terms of efficiency and renewables, and it also focuses on making environmentally friendly products.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia
The people at Neste believe that climate change is a global challenge, and responding to it calls for a number of parallel approaches. We participate in the global climate effort by producing cleaner transport fuels from renewable raw materials, as well as by controlling the emissions from our production. The company is one of the most sustainable companies in the world and has won multiple awards for there efforts in the sustainability area of there company. The companies goal is to challenge the oil refining industry by offering increasingly clean fuel solutions and applications based on renewable raw materials.
At IKEA this year, they have launched there 2030 People and Planet Positive Strategy. The three change drivers – healthy and sustainable living; circular and climate positive; and fair and equal – form our roadmap to creating a better everyday life for the many people globally and locally. In Australia, work is already underway to achieve some of these ambitions. Through this IKEA has shown how they are a sustainable company that can make a positive impact on the earth an society.
Commonwealth Bank of Australia:
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia has been named Commonwealth Bank the most sustainable business in Australia for the third consecutive year. They have done many various sustainable things such as there impacts with climate. During 2017, CBA’s Climate Change Position Statement outlined the ways in which the bank will support the transition to a net zero emissions economy by 2050. This includes a $15 billion target for financing low-carbon projects by 2025.
Bee wrappy is an Australian based company that sells fabrics coated in bees wax. The objective of this company is to supply people with “a beautiful alternative to cling wrap and single use plastics.” Bee wrappys wraps come in many different sizes and colours. The wraps are easy to clean and provide a easy effective alternative for single use plastics. Bee wrappy has created a fun and interesting way to reduce everyday house hold waste.
Biome is a zero waste website selling “naked” beauty as well as natural skin care, metal straws, reusable cups, waste free lunch boxes, water bottles and much much more. This brand strives to create a more sustainable world by choosing to reuse biomes. Customers of biome have saved over 10.2 million single use products from being transported, wasted, ending up in landfill, rivers and oceans. Biome strives to reach a waste free world.
Reusable mesh produce bags
Made from recycled plastic drink bottles these bags can carry up to 2kilos of fresh fruit and vegetables. These reusable bags are an easy and effective alternative for one use shopping bags. These bags are washing machine safe and easy to use saving 7.5 million plastic bags from landfill they are a purchase many wouldn’t regret.
Stack space is a company that makes shipping containers into small but comfortable houses which can be transported anywhere on the planet these houses are completely independent including solar and a water tank to collect rainwater as well as plenty of space to store things and even running water this product benefits people in third world countries where there is limited water and no safety while in a shipping container no one can get in to hurt you
