i strongly believe that my awareness project is progressing at a smooth rate. by next week the mold should begin and hopefully by the end it will be complete. I know that I have done best with the skeletal structure of the turtle which required the most amount of effort, I also believe that i could have collected more rubbish in the amount of time that I had.
For my assignment for the improvement of Sustainability at John Paul college, I believe I am needing to make more of a start than I have. For each of my sections for my assignment I need to gather information on effects of food on Magpies and needing to create a creative piece that the school will engage with, but I need to still survey the school on why they feed the Magpies and how we could stop it.
for our assignment I think I'm on track but need to get my facts straight and try to understand more than I have so fair about different bins and there use and I really think its important to encourage others about this
So far my idea was good, but, there are possibly some changes that will need to be placed.
The reward was really difficult to decide as at first the reward were treat's until it was decided that they were unsustainable and were unhealthy. Now it is changed to tokens that can be spent at the canteen.
My original idea was that I would put the bins near the houses and once the rubbish was filled up to a point, the house would receive a reward. But that idea has already been taken and now has to be switched to bins outside.
I hope to improve the reward system that will fit better and be more effective in convincing people to pick up more rubbish while also staying healthy and sustainable.
In the end I have had to make a few adjustments to my project and may continue to do so in order to improve it.
For my first assessment project, it was good but needed a better idea and understanding of what the purpose of my first porject was. Until we changed the project from hanging garden to a school anit-rubbish bin set up in classrooms. I belive that this is more of a better understanding, purpose and efficient project to help make JPC more of a sustainable school. For each step and progress I make during this project with my friend Noah, we will try gather a lot of information and research to make this project work and get JPC to be more efficient and sustainble in the school. With the first project, it was good but it wasnt planned and discussed properly and had no purpose for the school. But with the second project, I belive it is a better project than the first because it has more of a role and prupose to help the school be more efficient, sustainable and also having a good impact on the environment.
So far for my Sustainability assignment I am conducting a clothes swap.
I have made some information posters which help spread the word on how many clothes we throw away and what we can do to reduce that. I made the posters on photoshop with a gradient background. On the weekend I am going to the green shed to go and get some clothes to start the clothes swap with. I am collecting the clothes from the cages out the front of the shed as all those clothes are free of charge. I have finished most of the paperwork for the assignment. I still need to conduct a survey to see how many clothes us as a school throw away. I also need to make a poster regarding the date of when the clothe swap will take place. My aim for this project is to try and stop the amount of clothes we throw away as when you throw your clothes away they go straight to the landfill and just sit there. This swap will majority be held at lunch. To collect clothes from the room you need to bring in clothes to swap for another item of clothing. In the room I will have some posters and maybe some brochures if people want to take to learn more. I am going to talk about some organisations that try to reduce the amount of clothing that is thrown away.
Sustain blog week 6
I believe that our assignment is going good so far, we have made 50 out of 100 scrunchies, we have an idea of our campaign and I’m up to speed with my blogs, we still need to put more work into figuring out exactly what to do for our campaign and how to advertise the scrunchies and get peoples attention. I have a few idea for a campaign, we are thinking of either getting jeans and writing facts on them and then sticking them all over the school or, getting a scarecrow or something like a scarecrow and dressing it in old, used clothes to show that there is always a use to old clothes and people shouldn’t throw them away when they’re sick of the item of clothing.
I have been doing very well so far when it comes to implementing E-Waste management techniques in the school, i have proceeded to make a statement by hanging old wires on coat hangers with signs stating that you can recycle your E-Waste near the student hub, this will be a good statement and will hopefully get the message out that you can recycle your old technology
My work so far has been very stagnant. My work hasn’t been incredibly productive due to the way we had a relief teacher for the first five weeks of the term. Not only was having a relief teacher the problem with my productivity but not being on task while Mrs McNamara who would’ve help keep my group on task was a problem encountered.
Having a relief teacher present in the classroom for the first five weeks was difficult due to the way she encouraged my groups idea. She didn’t give us any warning to the amount of students in the class where doing the same topic. Doing the same topic as half the student is the class made it difficult because when Mrs McNamara came back to teaching our class My group was five weeks behind. We were behind because we decided that it would be easier to choose a new topic and scrap the no waste lunch idea. The new topic Dillon and I chose was a saving electricity idea.
Dillon and I need to pick up the pace of our work as we haven’t complete any of our portfolio for our new topic. The portfolio was already lacking in work as we weren’t very productive with the relief teacher. My group has several pages of work needed to be done in order to have this task complete on time and at an acceptable standard.
For my first assessment project, it was a good idea but it needed a more defined purpose on how it was going to improve the sustainability of JPC. Then I changed the project from “ Nude Food” to a school anti-soft plastics campaign that would be setup across the school. I believe that this is a better idea, and it will be efficient and help make JPC more of a sustainable school. For each step I make throughout the project/ campaign, i will gather good information and facts to make this project work specifically at a JPC. With the first idea, it was a good idea but it could be improved drastically and altered to suit the “ high school”. Although with the second project, I believe it is a better campaign than the first because it will have more of an effect and purpose in the school, and be more efficient, sustainable as well as having a positive impact on the sustainability of JPC.
As of currently our assignment is on track. The scrunches have been completed and our campaign is underway. To improve this assignment we could focus on production of the campaign video as well as finishing the displays that are going to be pinned up around school. To improve our inquiry project we can research more information to go into the video part of the campaign. The rest of our plan is to develop and finish the scrunches, campaign video, and hanging displays to a good standard.
Blog week 6
I want to improve my project by making some interesting posters with info about how much money is being put to waste on the electricy bill. On the poster I want to include how much money is being spent on the bill and how much of that money is going to waste because we are leaving lights and macs on at the school continuously throughout the whole day even when there is no class in that room the lights and macs in there are still on. On the poster I want to compare the amount of money on the electricity bill to something that they like such as technology or sporting equipment. If I put these posters around the school, I can get the word out an make a difference. If I could make a difference to the electricity bill I would feel good cause that means I have done something great to save the school some money, so they can spend in other ways to benefit the school. What I have done well so far is that I have already began to make the posters I will put up around the school. And I have received the electricity bill so I know how much money is being spent on electricity.
